Karun is a composer, music producer, and musician based in The Netherlands. His musical approach is rooted in the integration of diverse stylistic elements and the fusion of electronic and acoustic textures. This creative synthesis, coupled with his repertoire spanning jazz, rock, hip-hop, R&B, funk, electronic music, and Indian Folk Music, underscores his innovative and multi-stylistic sonic signature.
Karun’s musical journey began at the age of 8 with the Mridangam, an Indian percussion instrument, under the tutelage of renowned artist Trichur C. Narendran. At 15, he began his guitar studies with virtuoso guitarist and arranger, Neil Mukherjee. This passion led him to earn a scholarship for India's first accredited Jazz performance program at Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music, where he not only honed his instrumental skills but also explored composition, arrangement, and music production under the mentorship of distinguished faculty members, including luminaries like Prasanna, Rubens de la Corte, Manuel Valera, Jovol Bell, and Jake Hertzog.
Karun's guitar skills soon found a stage with various Indian artists and bands, including Amrit Rao and The Madrascals, Kavita Thomas, Martin Visser Quartet, Blind Image, Trojan Horse, Circuit, and Urban Vibe. Concurrently, his passion for exploring diverse musical styles through production led to the 2017 release of his debut beat tape, "After Hours," which received national critical acclaim and marked a significant milestone in his career as a music producer. Karun's distinctive style and diverse portfolio also paved the way for opportunities in musical scoring for visual media and advertising, now a pivotal aspect of his creative practice.
In 2020, Karun relocated to the Netherlands on a full scholarship to pursue a Master's Degree in music composition and production at HKU University of the Arts. Currently, he resides in Utrecht, where he is involved in the creation of a debut EP with his new project KDRC, alongside various commercial projects spanning advertising, visual media scores, and sonic branding initiatives.
Beyond his musical pursuits, Karun holds a bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication. His professional experience extends to roles as a marketing specialist and mastering trainee with the global audio giant, Dolby, as well as a production assistant with the production house and record label, Earthsync.
